why do children run away?
An estimated 2,3oo children go missing everyday, and most are runaways. While some just go on a small road trip with friends to get away, many leave and never come home, and are never seen again. Some argue the reason why children run away from home is because of their behavior. I believe the most reasonable reason is of an unhealthy relationship with their parents.
An unhealthy relationship could mean many things like, kids feel they aren’t getting guidance or support their needing so they run away to try to find a place where they can get it. This is because home is supposed to be a safe and comfortable environment, and if they don’t feel loved, safe or comfortable in their own home, they feel as if they don’t matter. So they leave and try to find a place where they can get the things their needing.
In Addition, children also feel the need to run away from home if they are not getting the attention their needing. According to studies this is one of the main reason why children run away from home. When running away they usually go to a friends or relatives house. They try to find someone who can understand them and treat them fairly. If children have issues/problems that they are needing guidance and their parents are always away from home or giving most of the attention to a younger or needing sibling, they feel like they have no one. So they feel the only way to get the guidance is by running away to try to find someone who can fill in the shoes of their parents.
Also, rebellion can also be a cause in children running away. If they are receiving abuse, or feeling not loved and not getting the attention their needing, they start to rebell, which could result to running away. And when rebelling they running away isn’t the only thing they could do. They could start using drugs, and start drinking to try to not feel the pain they are feeling.
From reading this, you can easily tell that running away is a very serious matter. There are many reasons as to why children run away, from lack of guidance and support, to abuse, and no attention. The number of children running away is growing every year, and there is something you can do. If you know someone that is thinking about running away, tell someone!
