Why are drugs so popular among students our age?

Anymore, I have found that every year, drugs and alcohol among teens become more popular. People you would never expect have turned to them. People you used to talked to everyday have just turned into another kid in the hall way. For me it's hard to hear the conversations that kids in my class have, about how they did this drug and how they have gotten high of this and that. I don't know what their future will bring them, and what their goals are but doing drugs is going to get them nowhere fast. So why do so many do them? What is it about drugs that make it so attractive? Is it peer pressure, or is it just curiosity? You tell me! Because from my point of view I think there is nothing attractive about them, nor the people that do them, and am sure am not the only one that thinks that. I mean they do nothing but bad for you, so why? Why do so many teens do them? I don't understand. I mean life is so short, I would think that you would wanna do something with your life, and doing drugs/alcohol is not gonna get you anywhere, I know it's high school and you wanna have fun and it seems like an eternity before high school is over, but from what i've heard it passes by so fast, and before you know it your walking across that stage graduating, then what are you gonna do? Thats why it important to make good decisions now, so that you can have a good and successful future!!
